This option allows users to update the receipts entered receipt details previously recorded in Section 2 with the actual document detailsinformation. When the actual document is provided by the New Hire for which the receipt was presentednew hire, the I-9 Specialist can update the details in List A/, List B & , and List C of Section 2 by initiating the receipt update process from through I-9 Console /actions or the Keyword Search using the "Employee I-9 Life Cycle" category actions.

Note: Note that this process can be initiated only if receipts are entered in Section 2 and all the This option will be available in the I-9 Console actions or Keyword Search actions in the "Employee I-9 Life Cycle" category only if receipts exist in Section 2, no additional processes associated with the I-9 are process completedpending and the employee's I-9 is active.

Navigate to Access the I-9 Console via through the Quick links Links or through by using the menu link available in the left navigation panel.




Select any completed transaction process with receipts in Section 2 and click on the "Info and Actions" link for the respective I-9.




Navigate to  the Actions tab and select "Initiate Receipt Update" option.

How to complete the receipt update process?

Before navigating to Section 2, the Receipt Update process opens the I-9 Section 2 Correction Reason page as shown below. On this page, select an appropriate reason and the E-Verify option.




Choose "Receipt Updates" as the Reason and select "Yes" for Perform E-Verify. Entering the text in Other Notes field is optional.Once you are done  After entering the details on the Section 2 Reason Page, click on the "Continue" button . This will navigate to proceed to the Section 2 activity.




The Section 2 page opens in edit mode with the previously entered receipt details populated in the fields.




Replace receipts with the actual document details.

In the Additional Information section, enter if any note/comment has to be added.If any necessary notes or comments. If an alternative procedure is used for was used for remote document verification of documents, indicate this by selecting , select the "Check here if you used an alternative procedure authorized by DHS to examine documents" checkbox.  If When this checkbox is selected, system enforces to provide I-9 attaching supporting documents as attachments in Section 2 . For more details on uploading attachments, please click hereis required.

Note:  This This alternative process is allowed exclusively when permitted only if the Legal Entity (Company/Business Unit) responsible for the employee's hiring is registered for with E-Verify, which means the Company or Business Unit meaning it has been configured in the DHS Client Setup. If the legal Entity (Company/Business Unit) Legal Entity is not enrolled in E-Verify, this checkbox will be disabled.

Note: If  If Section 2 is assigned to a remote user , and they check the checkbox indicating  "Check here if you used an alternative procedure authorized by DHS to examine documents" is checked by the remote user in Section 2, checkbox, they must upload supporting documents when completing the Section 2 activity if no attachment is provided in Section 1. The I-9 Specialist does not need not add the attachment while completing to add any attachments during the Section 2 review unless they delete the attachment uploaded by the remote user. In that case, the system will prompt for the attachment during the completion of the Section 2 review.

If the checkbox indicating alternative procedure is selected and the attachment is not provided in Section 2, the page will show the following error message upon saving the Section 2 activity.If the attachment is deleted, the I-9 Specialist must upload a new one during the review. If no attachment is provided, the system will prompt for it by displaying an error message during the Section 2 review.

Note: Though Even if the checkbox indicating  "Check here if you used an alternative procedure authorized by DHS to examine documents" checkbox is not checked, you may still be prompted for uploading to upload attachments in Section 2, especially if attachments are configured as mandatory in the I-9 activities.

After entering all the details, check "I Agree" and click on "Electronically Sign".

After completing Section 2, the process next navigates to the E-Verify activity. Click on Click the "Create Case" button and to proceed with the E-Verify processing.




How to terminate the initiated receipt update process?

Before completing Section 2, you can undo terminate the initiated receipt update by terminating the process using "Undo last Filing" action through I-9 Console or Keyword Search "Employee I-9 Life Cycle" category. For more details, please click here
