This option will be available in I-9 Console/Keyword Search actions only when Supplement B corrections are enabled in I-9 Options setup and a prior name change process has been completed for the specific I-9 ID.

What is the purpose of Name Change Correction?

This process allows updating the details of a previously completed Name Change process. If multiple Name Change processes exist for an I-9 ID, the latest one will be considered for the correction.


How to initiate Name Change Correction process?

Before initiating the correction process for the Name Change you can verify the status of that specific transaction in the Reverify console.




Search the console by selecting the Filing Action as "Name Change".  Transactions stamped with a Completed Date can be considered for Name Change correction. If there are multiple rows for the same I-9 ID or Name,  correction process can be done only for the latest row.




For the above name change transaction, consider initiating the correction process.  In the I-9 Console, click on the "Info and Actions" link for the selected transaction and select "Name Change Correction" under Actions tab.







Confirm "Yes" on the message.




The latest name change details for that I-9 ID will be opened in edit mode as shown below.




After the process is initiated, this transaction can also be accessed via My Tasks console as shown below:




How to undo the Name Change Correction?

After initiating the Name Change Correction process, the "Undo Last Filing" option will be accessible under the Actions tab for that specific transaction. This option can be used to revert the initiated process. 

Navigate to I-9 Console and click on the "Info and Actions" link for the selected transaction. Open Actions tab and select "Undo Last Filing".

Click 'Yes' on the confirmation message.




Select "Process Terminate" as the reason and enter comments on the following page. Click on the "Submit" button.




Confirm by clicking on the "OK button.




How do you complete Name Change Correction?

In Supplement B, update the employee's new name in the New Name fields. Entering the First Name and Last Name are mandatory and Middle Initial is optional.

In the Additional Information enter if any note/comment need to be added. If an alternative procedure is used for remote verification of documents, indicate this by selecting the "Check here if you used an alternative procedure authorized by DHS to examine documents" checkbox. When this checkbox is selected, attaching supporting documents in Supplement B is required.

Note: This alternative process is allowed exclusively when the Legal Entity (Company/Business Unit) responsible for the employee's hiring is registered for E-Verify, which means the Company or Business Unit has been configured in the DHS Client Setup. If the legal Entity (Company/Business Unit) is not enrolled in E-Verify, this checkbox will be disabled.

If Supplement B is assigned to a remote user, and the checkbox indicating "Check here if you used an alternative procedure authorized by DHS to examine documents" is checked by the remote user in Supplement B, they must upload supporting documents when completing the activity. The I-9 Specialist need not add the attachment while completing the Supplement B review unless they delete the attachment uploaded by the remote user. In that case, the system will prompt for the attachment while completing the Supplement B review. 

Note: Though the checkbox indicating "Check here if you used an alternative procedure authorized by DHS to examine documents" is not checked you may still be prompted for uploading attachments in Supplement B especially if attachments are configured as mandatory in I-9 activities.

After entering the details, check "I Agree" and electronically sign.

How do you assign Name Change Correction process to a remote user?

Click on the "Assign Remote I-9" button located at the bottom of Supplement B.

What is the difference between initiating Name Change and Name Change Correction?

Once Name Change process is complete, both 'Initiate Name Change' and 'Name Change Correction' options display in I-9 Console under actions (provided Supplement B corrections are enabled in I-9 Options setup). Both the options allow changing the name details. However, the Name Change process will add another row in Supplement B whereas Name Change Correction will allow editing the prior (latest) Name Change details.
