Minors

When individuals below the age of 18 (minors) are hired by an employer, they need a preparer and/or translator (parent or guardian) to fill and attest the Section 1 information on their behalf.

The New Hire's age is determined based on the date of birth entered on the Biographic Information. If the New Hire is a minor, the system will automatically enable the preparers/translators option in Section 1. 

Below screenshot shows the date of birth of the New Hire entered on the Biographic Information page.

If the New Hire's age is below 18, they cannot complete Section 1 unless it is attested by a parent or guardian. The flow automatically sets preparer/translator option as default, compelling the New Hire to invite and add preparers to complete the activity. In case of Smart I-9/E-Verify product where Biographic Information doesn't exist in the process and the New Hire enters the header details in Section 1, the New Hire's age will be determined based on the Date of Birth entered by the New Hire in Section 1. If the New Hire is a minor, the preparer/translator option will be enabled by default and the New Hire is required to invite and add preparers to complete the activity.
